The inspiration for the name “Pony Box” and the logo came from a drawing by Jamie’s daughter. When asked what the drawing was, Tatiana explained, “It’s a pony box, you put everything in it, even your dreams.”
Pony Box Dance Theater aspires to bring the joy and beauty of dance to all people. Our mission: to push the boundaries of contemporary dance forward and to enrich the lives of underprivileged young people throughout Los Angeles County.
Pony Box Dance Theatre is a 21st century digital dream of Homeric athleticism with Olympian execution. An all male company based in Long Beach/Los Angeles, the troupe performs in museums, subways, galleries, parks, and theaters throughout the US. An artful, moving exploration of men in dance, this repertory company features the work of established and emerging choreographers including Daniel Ezralow and Elijah Laurant. PBDT was a finalist in the prestigious McCallum Theatre's Choreography Festival, performing Jamie Carbetta's dance "The Line". Carbetta also created a comical, updated version of the Nutcracker for the Company entitled "Just Nuts", a unique Los Angeles holiday classic delighting audiences annually.
We offer free classes to over 2000 students in Los Angeles County annually. We are the only all male company directed by a woman in the US. We co-founded The Dance for Healing Project. We are a bi-coastal company, with performances in both NYC and LA.
We are strongly committed to sharing the joy of dance with everyone, especially underprivileged students in Los Angeles County. Therefore provide high quality dance classes for all students, ages 5-22 – including those who cannot afford to pay for classes and supplies.learn more
